In March of 1983, Dave Lund, Staff Engineer of ACA Industries representing Dr. Julian Wolkovitch (who owned the joined wing patents) ask me to raise R&D, T&E (research and development, test and evaluation) funding for a Joined Wing Proof of Concept Vehicle. By August of 1983 the contract was signed with the project fully funded.
On October 10, of 1983, the project was changed forever with involvement in a mass murder. LESTER LEROY BOWER . This was a painful blow early in this effort.
By Dec. of 1983, ACA had delivered the Joined Wing Product Line, which contained numerous forms of aircraft including the NASA JOINED WING RESEARCH AIRPLANE (JW-1,2,3) as well as a HIGH ALTITUDE UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE (HAUAV) . This effort was to later become the CO-OPS Project. The joined wing work went on for some time with additional funding being allocated. This investment came to a halt when my partner was murdered. This stopped the project. Then Dr. Wolkovitch was unable to sell his company in 1990 (Aviation Week 1/15/90 pg. 73). and then passed away of leukemia in January of 1991, all hope was lost of continuing the work.
1993-1995 brought on a new attempt to fund and continue past work. Once again this project was involved with the Texas Dept of Corrections via Metromail of Lincoln, Neb. Legal actions and settlements are pending. When this is resolved settlement funding will be used to finance a new effort to fund the HAUAV Project. It is now March of 2000. We have set the goal of 2003 to have this project started and funded. This will take the cooperation of many participants. Hopefully, we will not be plagued with anymore major setbacks?...Lord willing.
