In March of 1983, ACA INDUSTRIES of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. sent a letter asking if there was interest in a joined wing aircraft? This was to be a "proof of concept vehicle" and would be a R&D,T&E project. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised and the project began on Aug. 29,1983 when contracts were signed. We did work on a product line that included numerous types of joined wings including a high altitude rpv. This was to be tied to a NASA effort and included work done by Cessna Aircraft.
By Oct.10, 1983 a mass murder took place in Sherman,Texas and LESTER BOWER was sent to death row. This radically effected our efforts, timetables, and project. Lester Bower has been on death row for 25 years to date. It is a very long story. Effort is being made now to get Bower a new trial
Dec. of 1983 allowed ACA Industries to produce their response to the product line discussions. This included the JW-1,2,3 JOINED WING RESEARCH PLANE as well as a HIGH ALTITUDE RPV. This effort was later to be known as the CO-OPS PROJECT.* You can read about this effort by hitting the CO-OPS BUTTON.Additional funding was allocated and work went on for some time. *The first prototype was destroyed by a unqualified pilot. This initial effort came to a halt when one of the investors was murdered in Denton,Tx..This stopped the project. Later, Dr. Wolkovitch attempted to sell his company due to health issues. See Aviation Week 1/15/90 page 73. In Jan. of 1991 he died of leukemia. This stopped all work.
From 1993 on efforts have been made to keep part of the work alive. The HAUAV was created and new life came back into a dead project. You can go to the HAUAV button and read more about the project as it stands today.
Since 1993 we have worked with over 50 different designs and even more projects and have enjoyed steady success. For years we have worked contracts and developed relationships that have lasted for years providing a degree of stability and growth.
UNMANNED SYSTEMS OF EAST TEXAS, INC. has branched out into air, land and sea operations and plans to expand even further into robotics and different types of research and developement.
This brief gives you a glimpse into our world. Numerous things have been left out for various reasons. Items such as the AUVSI ISG for the DoD JOINT PROGRAM OFFICE on UNMANNED VEHICLES IN 1988. We served on the MISSIONS COMMITTEE. UAV Flight Test Programs, R&D,T&E of different designs, funding efforts for various unmanned systems programs,etc..Our corporation is dedicated to the advancement of UNMANNED SYSTEMS IN ALL FIELDS OF ENDEAVOR.
