The joined wing air vehicle configuration seen in this artist's concept is one possibility for a Carbon Dioxide Observation Platform System, or CO-OPS. The Lockheed-Georgia contractor team has completed a CO-OPS study for NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and the U.S. Department of Energy's Carbon Dioxide Research Division. The study shows that it is technically feasible to build a near-space, long endurance system for multiple uses, including earth science research, communications relay and observational platforms.
